RE-BOOKSRE-BOOKS

Every Book Deserves a Good Home!

Since my cancer diagnosis arrived and upended my plans, I have been donating some of my books, movies and music to the VA and to Goodwill. As the end draws near, I hope to broaden my efforts by offering a large chunk of my library to family and friends and adding the Portland Public Library to the recipient list. It is quite a challenge to decide which books I may still have time to read before it's too late, but radical acceptance of my situation requires that I accept that I cannot read (or re-read) them all before the end, alas.

Time to part with my beloved books
This is me repurposing my beloved books [just a picture I found somewhere but it gives you an idea of how many books I am trying to find a new home].

During the month of April 2025 I am making some/many of my books available to family, friends and acquaintances at no cost (except for postage). I have organized the books into rough categories (see Book Categories links). You can call me or send me an email to let me know which book(s) you want and I will set them aside for you. I will change the book listing status from "Available" to "Selected" for your selection and to "Taken" once it is in your hands. In your email specify ISBN [if known] and/or Title, along with the number for that category [e.g., History 7: This Realm of England] and how you plan to get the book (in person or by mail). If you want the book(s) mailed, I'd appreciate help with the cost of postage, of course! In some cases, I have included books which I am keeping for sentimental purposes for now (as "My Copy") until I go into hospice, at which point they will become available to you.

The books are from my personal library; you might be able to deduce their condition from the images. You can Google the title or ISBN to learn more about the title. Some books were gifts, some were purchased for study or for enjoyment. Some go together as sets. I have run out of time to read every book [my eyes are bigger than my stomach, as my grandmother used to say], but I hope someone will be able to appreciate them. You can arrange a visit to look them over (with some coffee or tea) if that will help you to decide.

On May 1st, any remaining books will be donated to one of the following: the VA, the Portland Public Library, or Goodwill (not necessarily in that order). If you know of anyone or any organization that would like a specific book or books, please let me know [by email is best]. I am still hard at work identifying books to keep for the time being, so I will update the offerings as time goes on. Obviously my original plan to include the ISBN for every book did not happen, but I will add the ISBN as time allows; I still have a few more categories to complete.
